Running PIPE-PRO on Windows Vista Operating Systems.
PIPE-PRO may not run on your Vista computer with the installed graphics drivers - The Microsoft Vista operating system lacks the necessary graphic (video) drivers to run MS/DOS programs in full screen mode as required for PIPE-PRO. This problem can be overcome by installing Windows XP Professional graphics drivers. The problem and resolution have been addressed by Microsoft on the following web page in their support section.
SYMPTOMS
You may find that some 16-bit DOS-based programs do not run in full-screen mode in Windows Vista. You cannot set a Command Prompt (CMD) window to display in full-screen mode.
Note This symptom only applies to 32-bit versions of Windows Vista. 16-bit programs are not supported on 64-bit versions of Windows Vista.
CAUSE
The issue occurs because the Vista device drivers do not support running all of the DOS video modes. The Vista device drivers are based on the Windows Vista Display Driver Model (WDDM).
WORKAROUND
You may be able to work around this problem by installing the Microsoft Windows XP version of the video drivers for your video adapter. Contact the manufacturer of your video adapter for more information about how to obtain the Windows XP version of the video drivers for your video adapter. PIPE-PRO will run on Vista with Windows XP Graphics Drivers Installed - The Microsoft Vista operating system runs PIPE-PRO perfectly well after the graphics drivers are changed to Windows XP or Windows XP Professional graphics drivers. Computer manufacturers and graphics adapter manufacturers are scrambling to resolve this deficiency in the original Vista 3D graphics drivers, but as of this writing the Vista device drivers based on the Windows Vista Display Driver Model (WDDM) have not been updated.
Differences between Vista and XP Graphics Drivers - You can expect the graphics (video display) to change slightly when the drivers are changes from Vista to Windows XP. Many people consider this an improvement. Complaints have been made that the Vista 3D graphics are hazy or fuzzy. The Vista fonts tend to be smaller and more difficult to read than Windows XP graphics. Some people will view the change to Windows XP graphics drivers as an improvement, but others may feel otherwise.
How to Change Vista Graphics Drivers to XP Graphics Drivers - I purchased a Hewlett Packard Model nx7400 laptop computer with the Vista Business operating system. PIPE-PRO would not run on the computer as delivered, but it runs perfectly well after changing the graphics drivers to Windows XP Professional graphics drivers. Personally, I prefer the graphics, fonts and video display with the Windows XP Professional drivers installed on my Vista computer. This is done as follows:
Step No. 1 - You must find and download the correct Windows XP graphics drivers for your computer. On computers with an aftermarket graphics adapter (video card), the Windows XP graphics drivers must be obtained from the graphics adapter manufacturer's website. Some of the more popular computer websites are:
Computers:
Hewlett Packard - Support and Downloads.
Gateway - Support and Downloads.
Toshiba - Support and Downloads.
Panasonic - Support and Downloads.
Lenovo - Support and Downloads.
Samsung - Support and Downloads.
Graphics Adapters:
ATI Products - AMD - Support and Downloads.
Step No. 2 - Go to the computer or graphics adapter manufacturer's website. Migrate to the "Support and Download" section. Go to the "Download Drivers" section. You most likely must insert your computer model number or your graphics adapter model number for aftermarket graphics adapters. Go to the "Graphics Drivers" section for your computer. View the available list of drivers for your computer.
Download the installation program for Windows XP or XP Professional graphics drivers for your computer.
Download the installation program for Windows Vista graphics drivers for your computer. This is done so you can revert back to Vista graphics drivers, if desired. You may also find that the Vista graphics drivers have been upgraded since your system was installed.
Step No. 3 - After downloading, double-click on the Windows XP graphics drivers install program. Simply follow the instructions. You will be asked to restart your computer after the installation of the new drivers.
Step No. 4 - Adjust your video display. The default settings for your video display may not be as you desire. Right-click on an open area of the desktop and select "Properties." Make new selections as you desire.
Step No. 5 - Install the PIPE-PRO software. Install the PIPE-PRO Hardlock Key. Double-click on the PIPE-PRO icon on your desktop. The program should open a MS/DOS window and automatically go to "full screen" mode. The PIPE-PRO menu should load and the software should run perfectly well.
